A New Modern Café Racer

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR

We’ve been shying away from sharing new model releases for some time now, but every now and then a new model strikes a special chord with us…and today’s unveil of the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR has us buzzing. While aside from the addition of the half-fairing and single headlight, there’s not a lot different from the Speed Triple 1200 RS. That being said, the RS is a killer bike, it was mostly the bug eyes up front that didn’t jive with us. The naked RS does have a standard handlebar whereas the new RR has clip-ons and a slightly more aggressive rearset positioning. So, potentially slightly less comfortable yet more aggressive looks and positioning. The new RR feels like a neo modern cafe racer to us. Take a little bit of a Sport Classic mixed in with a MV Agusta Superveloce and finally sprinkle in some elements of the faired Thruxton RS… Not a bad combo if you ask us! From everything we see so far, we’re really digging the new Speed Triple 1200 RR.

1. BLISTERING TRIPLE ENGINE PERFORMANCE

The Speed Triple 1200 RS took the world by storm in January 2021 with its responsive and powerful 180PS, 1160cc, three-cylinder, low-inertia engine. Now, the same compact and lightweight unit powers the Speed Triple 1200 RR giving an even more thrilling Speed Triple riding experience, thanks to its more focused ergonomics and specification upgrades. A brushed stainless-steel silencer with black end-cap guarantees the soundtrack for this latest British epic is pitch perfect.

2. GENUINE SPORTS ERGONOMICS AND HANDLING

Engineered with exquisite attention to detail, the RR is the most focused Speed Triple ever, featuring clip-on handlebars and a beautiful new crafted fairing, giving it a nose-down, aggressive riding position that is pure sophisticated sports.

Fitted with the latest Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronically adjustable, semi-active forks and rear monoshock, the Speed Triple 1200 RR boasts the most advanced production Öhlins suspension available. Race-developed Brembo brakes include a span and ratio adjustable lever, radially-mounted Stylema® monobloc calipers and lightweight 320mm discs. Plus new high-performance Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres, a lightweight cast aluminium chassis and an optimised centre of gravity deliver the new benchmark in Speed Triple precision handling and agility.

3. PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING TECHNOLOGY

Constant development has transformed rider-aid technology, and the Speed Triple 1200 RR provides the perfect showcase.

The Optimised Cornering ABS and Optimised Cornering Traction Control bring a state-of-the-art safety system for riding in all conditions. And the assistance is never intrusive or restrictive, the tipping point between performance and safety is always perfectly balanced.

The standard-fit Triumph Shift Assist up and down quickshifter works superbly at any engine speed and load, optimising gear shifts while maintaining throttle position, helping to increase focus on the racetrack or the road. The latest generation front wheel lift control uses advanced algorithms to allow a non-intrusive smooth ride with constant, positive throttle.

4. LESS EFFORT, MORE FUN

In addition to the advanced electronic rider aids that enhance performance and safety, the Speed Triple 1200 RR features a number of thoughtful ride-enhancing touches.

The 5” TFT display has a strong focus on speed, gear and tacho, that can be configured to suit the rider’s preference — the information you need to ride on the road is often different to the information you want in your eyeline on the racetrack.

The My Triumph Connectivity System comes as standard, with an integrated Bluetooth module, making phone calls and music to your in-helmet system effortless, along with turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control. Accessed via easy-to-use handlebar-mounted switch cubes with menu systems that are intuitive and user-friendly, all the ride information you need is never far away.

5. FIVE RIDING MODES

The five riding modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Track and Rider Configurable) can be easily selected on the move, via a dedicated button on the left handlebar. These different modes have been developed through intensive testing to give the perfect throttle response, Traction control and ABS settings to suit a broad range of weather and road conditions. Of course, we all have our own preferences as riders, so the Rider Configurable option allows fine-tuning of each parameter to suit your style.

6. THE PINNACLE IN SPEED TRIPLE ATTITUDE

The new RR takes all of the muscular attitude and signature Speed Triple style of the new generation RS and raises it to a whole new level with a host of beautiful features and touches. The Speed Triple’s nose-down muscular broad-shouldered poise and attitude is amplified further by the stunning new crafted cockpit fairing with beautiful single headlight that echoes Triumph’s signature design DNA. Add to that the RR’s exquisite attention to detail, premium carbon fibre detailing and stunning candy paint schemes with Red Hopper and Crystal White options, and you have the pinnacle in Speed Triple attitude and style.
