A hand-built Yamaha XSR900 tribute to ’90s race bikes—now available in limited production.
A Modern Classic, Reimagined
Haxch Moto’s latest custom project, the XZR900 Thunderbolt, is more than just another Yamaha XSR900 build—it’s a full-blown homage to 1990s race machines, wrapped in hand-formed aluminum and engineered for real-world performance. Set to debut at this weekend’s Bike Shed Moto Show in London, the Thunderbolt brings retro energy and modern capability together in a way that feels both unexpected and inevitable.
Purpose-Built Aluminum Bodywork
This bike starts where most customs stop. The handcrafted aluminum fairing and tank were shaped in-house using traditional English wheel techniques, giving the Thunderbolt its aggressive lines and throwback silhouette. It’s a nod to the golden era of sportbike design, but sharper and more refined in execution.
While the original version wears bespoke alloy bodywork, future Thunderbolts will be built in carbon fiber using molds taken from this very bike—making this prototype the blueprint for a limited series.
Race-Inspired Paint and Geometry Tweaks
True to Haxch Moto’s signature style, the Thunderbolt wears a wild, 90s-inspired paint job, directly influenced by Yamaha liveries from the YZF750 and TZR250 era. But it’s not just a looker—geometry changes make this build genuinely track-capable.
A custom billet linkage raises the rear by 40mm, decreasing rake and trail for a tighter steering response. Combined with Maxton suspension front and rear, it’s a setup designed for real grip, not just posing.
Serious Hardware
There’s nothing off-the-shelf here. A full suite of performance parts backs up the attitude:
- Dymag wheels slash unsprung weight, boosting agility.
- HEL Performance braking system offers sharp, fade-free stopping power.
- Engine tuning by Seton Tuning brings the CP3 triple alive, with a remap and dyno work unlocking sharper throttle response and more top-end.
It’s the kind of build where every component was chosen with intent.
Limited Production, Rider-Focused Ethos
The Thunderbolt isn’t a one-off concept—it’s the first in a limited production run, with each unit built to spec for its future owner. A road-legal version with lighting, discreet turn signals, and a tail tidy is already in the works, making this a street weapon as much as a paddock-ready machine.
From showpiece to trackday to canyon shredder, Haxch Moto is building bikes for people who ride hard and want something rare.
