The devil’s in the details
A&J Cycles has a reputation for transforming modern Triumphs into rolling works of art, and their latest creation—a 2018 Triumph Thruxton R custom build—is no exception. With a mix of premium components, expert craftsmanship, and a sharp eye for aesthetics, this custom build is a perfect blend of form and function.
A Stance That Demands Attention
The standout feature of this build is the Kineo wide wheel conversion, giving the Thruxton an aggressive, planted stance. The Kineo 17×5.5 rear and 17×3.5 front wheels in matte black, paired with gold nipples, set the tone for the entire bike. To accommodate the wider rear setup, A&J Cycles installed an offset rear sprocket along with a Free Spirits front offset sprocket, ensuring perfect alignment and smooth performance.
Handling Meets Comfort
The ride quality is dialed in with Öhlins Blackline TR 965 shocks, providing the perfect balance between comfort and performance. At the front, the ClassicBike Raisch fender, painted by Slag Kustom, adds a touch of refinement while maintaining the bike’s aggressive look.
Power and Sound
The Cone Engineering Shorty Slip-Ons give the Triumph Thruxton R custom build a deep, throaty growl, amplifying its street presence. To enhance stopping power, Brembo Oro rotors were added, ensuring that this machine brakes as well as it accelerates. The Bikemaster 520 chain keeps everything moving smoothly, offering both durability and style.
Precision Details
This build is packed with high-end details that elevate its overall look and functionality. The Arton Works gauge cover, Motone brass paddock stand bobbins, Roswell brass oil cap, headbolt covers, and ribbed throttle body covers all add a unique, refined touch. The LSL brake and shift levers ensure crisp, precise control, while the Rizoma windscreen brings a café racer edge to the front end.
Blacked-Out Brilliance
To complete the custom look, the triple trees, swingarm, fork lowers, engine covers, and more were powder-coated by TRG Coating. The result is a stealthy, blacked-out aesthetic that enhances the Thruxton’s already sleek design. Finishing off the look, black Triumph tank emblems give a nod to its heritage while blending seamlessly with the modern upgrades.
Lighting and Electronics
Subtle yet effective lighting upgrades include Rizoma iRide S Rear and iRide Front LED turn signals, a Motobox / Radiantz LED tail light, and a New Rage Cycles tucked plate bracket. The Motogadget M-Grip Soft, M.View Spy mirrors, and bar-end finishers further refine the bike’s sleek, uncluttered cockpit.
Built for the Ride
Beyond the show-stopping aesthetics, this Thruxton R is built to be ridden. The Michelin Pilot Road 6 tires (180/120) provide excellent grip and longevity, making this machine as capable on the streets as it is striking to look at. Additional performance-focused details like the Free Spirits shock dress-up kit and passenger peg delete kit help streamline the bike’s silhouette.
A&J Cycles Delivers Again
Kyle’s Thruxton R is a perfect example of A&J Cycles’ ability to blend high-performance upgrades with a cohesive, custom aesthetic. Every detail has been meticulously considered, creating a build that’s as rewarding to ride as it is to admire.
