A rally-bred Ducati built by hand in rural New Hampshire

If you know Walt Siegl, you probably picture sculptural Ducati café racers. Minimal. Precise. Almost architectural. But the Walt Siegl WSM Adventure shows another side of his design brain, one that’s less about espresso stops and more about disappearing down a dirt road with a full tank and no real plan.

Built around a fully rebuilt and blueprinted 1100cc Ducati L-twin, the WSM Adventure is a purpose-built rally machine. Not an adventure bike styled to look tough, but one designed from the ground up to be ridden hard, loaded heavy, and pushed well beyond the pavement. With a curb weight hovering around 350 pounds fully fueled, it undercuts most modern ADV bikes by a wide margin while offering far more focus where it counts.

Each WSM Adventure motorcycle is hand-built by Walt himself in his workshop inside a converted historic textile mill in rural New Hampshire. Geometry, ergonomics, suspension, and fuel capacity are tailored to the rider and the terrain. Dual sport or full off-road, restrained or aggressive, subtle or loud, it’s all part of the conversation.

Built to Ride, Not to Pose

This isn’t a custom adventure bike meant to live under a spotlight. Owners talk about the WSM Adventure in terms of riding memories, not paint codes.

One owner noted that while the bike looked great when new, it looked even better once it showed signs of real use. That philosophy runs through the entire build. It’s meant to be dropped, scraped, ridden through dust and mud, then ridden some more.

Silodrome described the Walt Siegl WSM Adventure as a low-volume production motorcycle designed from the ground up to perform both on and off asphalt, pointing out that its weight and suspension allow it to outperform many high-end production adventure bikes.

Designed Around the Rider

Fit is central to the WSM Adventure. Rather than forcing the rider to adapt, the bike is built around their body and riding style. The seat avoids the narrow, wedge-shaped profile common on off-road machines, instead offering proper width and cushioning for long days in the saddle.

Grippy vinyl upholstery keeps the rider planted when moving forward on the tank shell. Off-road geometry includes a 26-degree steering neck and a 13-degree swingarm angle, balancing stability with agility in technical terrain.

One owner summed it up simply, saying the bike fits like a glove, right down to the seat.

Rally Thinking, Walt Siegl Execution

Visually, the WSM Adventure leans into an aggressive 80s and 90s rally aesthetic without losing elegance. Kevlar carbon bodywork is secured with dzus fasteners and can be removed within minutes, making maintenance refreshingly straightforward.

Fuel capacity is handled by two aluminum fuel cells, one beneath the tank shell and one integrated into the subframe. Connected by a large quick-disconnect line, the system allows fuel to balance quickly during refueling. With up to 6.5 gallons on board, the bike carries true rally-level range.

Suspension travel measures 8.5 inches, with Marzocchi forks featuring upgraded internals and an Öhlins rear shock, tuned specifically for the bike’s weight. A custom-machined fork lug allows for radial Brembo calipers, reinforcing that this is an engineered solution, not an adapted one.

Final drive gearing is optimized for technical riding, while the six-speed gearbox keeps highway speeds relaxed. A sophisticated GPS system comes preloaded with over 14,000 miles of trails and can be removed from its mount and used as a tablet.

Customization & Ordering

Every Walt Siegl WSM Adventure is built to order. Buyers can specify paint color, upholstery, suspension upgrades, including full motocross-spec components, geometry setup, and optional pannier systems. Heated grips and touring-focused options are also available.

Despite its capability, the bike remains impressively light. Bike Exif noted that it comes in well below the weight of machines like the BMW GS or Ducati Multistrada Enduro, while offering power to spare and suspension tailored to the rider’s ambitions.

A Different Kind of Adventure Bike

The WSM Adventure doesn’t chase spec-sheet dominance or marketing trends. It exists in a different lane, one where craftsmanship, intention, and real-world riding experience matter most.

As one owner put it after a full day in the saddle, the motor was smooth and eager, the gearing ideal, the ergonomics spot on, and the entire experience unforgettable.

That pretty much says it all.
