Blending the Spirit of Classic Racers with a Taste of Tradition
In the bustling workshop of XTR Pepo, where the scent of oil melds with the spirit of innovation, the Pata Negra was born—a machine that has a loud bark and a sharp bite to back it up. This custom build by XTR Pepo, led by the visionary Pepo Rosell, is a beautifully crafted tribute to the classic endurance race bikes.
The Pata Negra, which translates to “black hoof” in English, is an intriguing name that evokes quality and heritage, much like the famed Iberian ham known for its exquisite flavor and the distinctive black hooves of the pigs it comes from. This name reflects the build’s deep roots in tradition and its premium craftsmanship, akin to the delicacy that shares its name.
Built on a 2003 Ducati Monster 1000 IE, the Pata Negra showcases a meticulous modification process. Its frame has been masterfully altered to include a new rear subframe, supporting a blend of historical homage and modern technology. The bike features a suite of custom components, such as ergal triple clamps and CNC machined clip-ons, which enhance its aggressive stance and nod to its racing inspirations.
The tank is from a Ducati 749, modified to fit, and equipped with a slick endurance quick-filling gas cap. Underneath its bespoke tank and sleek solo tail section, the Pata Negra houses a 1000cc Ducati Monster IE motor with ported heads and compressed pistons, complemented by a throaty Supermario 2-into-1 exhaust system exiting through an XTR megaphone. The detail of the exhaust getting notched into the seat unit is a fantastic little detail.
Front suspension has been updated to a Ducati S4RS fork along with a Ducati Performance steering damper and in the rear Pepo has fitted a premium Ohlins rear piggyback shock. The frame and swingarm are expertly finished, further emphasizing the race-ready attitude of Pata Negra. The underbracing added to the swingarm is another favorite detail of ours.
The Pata Negra embodies the endurance of design and function, echoing the resilience of those vintage racers and the enduring appeal of a culinary masterpiece known for its perfection. This build invites riders and enthusiasts alike to partake in a legacy of speed and taste, encapsulating the essence of both a bygone era of racing and a timeless culinary tradition.
