Born Free 5 :: June 29, 2013

Born Free 5 is sure to be an awesome time as usual.  This year is especially cool as 18 of the participating builder bikes are up for grabs. Can't wait to see these bikes in person but pretty sure if we win, we're going for Brawny's sexy Harley with cafe influences.  It's a killer late-model Sportster that he calls a 'go to jail' kind of bike.

Video below.

2013 Thruxton Cup Racing at Willow Springs Raceway, CA

If you haven't been to see the Thruxton Cup races in person yet, you're missing out.  They're so fun to watch live and there's an equal amount of fun off-track in the pits.  We were out there hanging with the British Customs crew and British American Motors for the weekend and got to witness Heath "Chief" Coffran take back to back wins at Willow.

The racers in the Thruxon Cup are a fun and friendly bunch.  Even though they're rivalry on the track, it's all fun and smiles in the pits.  Guys like Mike Blankenship, Greg Glevicky, Paul Canale, and Walt Bolton to name a few, were more than gracious with their tools, spare parts, wisdom and RV's.  For those of you unfamiliar with Walt Bolton, he's one of the biggest supporters and advocates for the Thruxton Cup.  He supports - he has his own race team BES Racing, races himself (that's him #552 below) and promotes daily. Thanks Walt!

Jason and the British Customs team are an official sponsor of the 2013 Thruxton Cup but the BC crew really pours their heart and soul into the class and supporting the racers.  When talking to the racers, they all sing BC's praises and are very grateful for the love.

Congratulations to Heath and to the whole British American Motors team on the success in the Thruxton Cup.  We're excited to see you race again soon!

Wheels and Waves :: Second Edition (Video)

Here at The Bullitt we know we are fortunate to be in Southern California where there are tons of great motorcycle events, rallies, rides and gatherings...shoot, we've got Born Free 5 this weekend in our backyard!  Every so often we wish we were in the UK or Australia to participate in some of the events across the globe.  The Southsiders MC's 'Wheels and Waves' event in Biarritz is definitely one of those we can't wait to get to.  For those who weren't able to make it, here's a well produced video reminding us all what we missed.

Custom Harley Davidson 'Norley' Café Racer

Shaun Stocker from Down and Out Choppers sent in these stunning photos of his Harley Sportster cafe.  He mated a 1200cc Harley motor into a manx frame and pulled a classic looking cafe racer with modern comforts.   Many of the custom alloy parts were made my Stocker himself like the front fender, oil tank and one-off seat.

Polished out modern GSX-R front forks with custom twin rotor set up keep the front end pointed in the right direction.  The exhaust is custom made with a beautiful under-tail exit.  Stocker is located in the UK and has a handful of other fun builds - like a custom Hinkley Triton - in the works.  You can follow him on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with his builds.

The Bullitt goes racing

...vintage motocross racing to be specific

With all the fun everyone’s been having in the dirt with the recent Hell on Wheels MX rally, Iron and Resin's HooliganDerby and the like, here at The Bullitt we feel like we've been missing out.  We know a few buddies who race The California Vintage Motocross Club and we've been itching to get back in the dirt.  An opportunity arose to snag a ’81 YZ125 on the cheap so we jumped on it.
She's a little rough around the edges but looks to have very low miles off-road  The plan is to convert her into an air-cooled 100cc race bike and see how we can do.

Here she is in all her glory:

This is a buddy's who did a clean and classic restoration:

Or do you like the white?

Or maybe something in between?

Any suggestions, websites, or shops for cool parts, please post to comments.

Vintage Racing at Willow Springs Raceway

We were out at Willow Springs Raceway to cover the Thruxton Cup and had a great time.  While there, I snagged some photos of vintage racing too.  The vintage classes are so great.  Everyone helps each other out between races.  There's competition, but it's all in good fun.  Racing, camping, friends, beer...what more is there really?

New Product :: British Customs Cafe Racer Seat

British Customs just came out with a clean and comfortable seat for your modern classic Triumph cafe racer.  It retains the original seat height and has foam sculpted to keep you and your passenger from sliding forward.  The seat allows your legs to be in a more natural riding position and evenly distributes your weight.

Designed to mount without a rear fender, the seat kit contains a British Customs Fender Under Plate to prevent debris from entering the battery compartment. License plates can be mounted on any of BC’s three flat or curved plate holders. There are three styles to choose from: curved or flat Side Mount Plates, a Shock Mount Plate and an undertail License Plate.

Included in the Café Racer seat kit is an LED version of British Customs’ Lucas Style Tail Lamp, available with a red or clear lens. It integrates perfectly with the Café seat and is connected to a plug-and-play harness with quick-release connector for easy removal. The taillight and saddle are sold together as in this kit and available individually.

Kit includes:
•    British Customs Café Racer Seat
•    British Customs Fender Under Plate
•    Mounting hardware
*Please note: This kit does not include a license plate
